Recently arrived from Recife, bachelor Paulo goes to a party in Rio de Janeiro and there he meets Lucíola, with whom he falls in love. Despite his friend Sá having announced that Lucíola is a prostitute, Paulo begins to experience great love with her, but cannot avoid being jealous.

Dr. Leme, a rich old man, is frustrated about not having children with his wife Raquel. In his mansion, he gives parties filled with drinking and sex with his secretaries. André, his driver, becomes lover of Rachel and they plan to kill Leme to get hold of his fortune.
