He apparently has a child somewhere, but only sends child support. Karel has a loving family, but his wife and two teenage children have no idea what happened between the brothers years ago; the children don't even know about Emil's existence. Karel needs Emil's help, so Emil spends several days at Karel's house. As far as brotherly help is concerned, the situation, as we learn from flashbacks, is complicated and may never be resolved, but Emil becomes close to Karel's family, discovers what he has been missing all his life, and comes forward to his daughter himself.
