A young Georgian man named Lado is involved in smuggling antique furniture from Georgia to Russia. Medea, Lado’s girlfriend, buys herself an apartment in St. Peterburg’s historic center. At the time of the unlawful deportation of thousands of Georgians from Russia, Lado is caught and deported.

A meeting with a Georgian guy distracts a hopelessly ill girl from her worries. With the help of his parents, they go to Israel for a medical consultation.

The film tells the story of the difficult fate of the intelligentsia opposing ideological despotism.

In Svaneti, the mountainous region of Georgia, there is the Jachvliani clan tower known to have shown an angel figure of white smoke. At these times the tower inhabitants always prayed as the angel was believed to protect them. One day a man from another clan was killed in the tower and the angel has never made its appearance since.

An educationalist priest's attempt to promote literacy in a mountainous village is challenged by a brigade leader who views learning as a waste of time and a means to avoid actual work.
