In Poland, behind the gates of an exclusive housing estate, the life of its wealthy residents is regulated by an old code of honor, due to which the Kowalskis and the Nowaks have been embroiled in a bloody family feud for years.

In 2011, a psychiatric patient is visited by a postulate. The patient is a retired head of the "D" Group – a secret department of the Security Service to fight against the Polish Catholic church. Murders, beatings, blackmails, provocations, robberies, those are standard methods of operation for its officers. The postulate wants to unravel the mystery of the death of priest Roman Kotlarz, a parish priest from Pelagow.

Wroclaw, 1997. The city is threatened by flooding. Hospitals are being evacuated. Young ambitious psychiatrist Konstanty Grot takes a catatonic patient to the bus. Based on the autobiographical memoir of Ola Wat, the film follows the ordeal of Ola and her husband, poet Aleksander Wat, during the Second World War. Separated after the Soviet invasion of Poland, Ola endures exile, persecution, and unimaginable hardship while desperately searching for her husband. Sustained by hope and love, she struggles to survive against the brutal realities of war and political repression.

Three-year-old Nikola Szlezyngier disappears in unexplained circumstances and her parents Angelika and Dawid are the main suspects. Angelika contacts an old friend Joanna Chylka, a brilliant, cynical and successful lawyer to help. With her new apprentice Kordian, Joanna will try to bring the case to a happy close.

Murder investigator Evert Bäckström is convinced that crimes have been committed when a women's cranium is found on an island in the archipelago. But his investigation is countered by the police chief and when the woman's identity is clarified, the entire investigation is turned upside down.
