The film depicts the arrival of immigrants in the city of Espírito Santo following the history of Carlos, an Italian who struggles for his place against Hermann Gunter, a German colonist who rules the region.

In the 17th century, to guarantee the possession of the region, disputed with Spanish and Dutch pirates, the Portuguese built a fort at the point where the dark waters of the Rio Negro meet the clear waters of the Rio Solimões, forming the Amazon River. Around the fort, the city of Manaus was born. Alli lived the Manaús Indians, warriors who worshiped Manari, the Good, and from him they received the order to fight all the invaders of the forest.

Two twin brothers, Cláudio José and José Cláudio, definitively separate when one of them decides to leave for the big city. Years later, the second brother also started living in Rio de Janeiro. One night, he is attacked by three thugs, who kill his pregnant wife and leave him disfigured. In search of revenge, he follows in the footsteps of his brother, who will find himself working for a crime figure. And in pursuit of his discoveries, he began to wage his revenge against the criminals on the same level as he had been confronted.

Poor boy treats a sweet lemon tree as his only friend, talking to it, and learning important values in the process. But one day the tree must be cut.

When a dying man receives a kiss from a bereaved man who tries to save him, the man is jailed as a homosexual. He is released from jail, but his life has been ruined by the incident -- and the man eventually is killed by his own father-in-law. The kiss that resulted in the eventual persecution and death of the man is never shown in this plodding, downbeat drama.

Class differences and a childhood dream are the highlights of "A Patota". Juliana, Vicente, Pedro, and Tião are children who live in a village where the poor and the rich coexist. They dream of traveling to Africa. Teacher Neli, her boyfriend Jorge, and Professor Simões join forces to help them realize this dream.
