A story about Janina Duszejko, an elderly woman, who lives alone in the Klodzko Valley where a series of mysterious crimes are committed. Duszejko is convinced that she knows who (or what) is the murderer, but nobody believes her.

Warsaw, 1981. Martial law shuts down the country, turning it into a prison overnight. Taxis are replaced by tanks, citizens are treated like criminals, and visiting British Professor Joan Andrews finds herself trapped. After witnessing the murder of a young student by the secret police, Joan herself becomes the target.

In a series of linked stories, women navigate and challenge a dystopian future ruled by sexual duty, emotional repression, and patriarchal dominance.

Based on Nobel Prize winning author Olga Tokarczuk’s novel of the same name, Drive Your Plow over the Bones of the Dead is a new work for theatre conceived and directed by Simon McBurney. Tokarczuk’s controversial, violent, genre defying novel – part thriller, part comedy, and part blistering poetic manifesto for the rights of animals and the environment – caused an uproar in its native Poland upon publication.

Basia has already settled down in her life. She is a housewife and has a loving family. It seems as though she does not miss anything to be happy. Until a moment when an opera diva moves into an apartment upstairs. Basia is enchanted and seduced with her voice. A peculiar relationship is born between them. It develops into a feeling which is not particularly comfortable for either of the two women.
