László Bagyoni is forced to flee because he published a newspaper in the small Szekler village without permission. His friend Bence Uz, who lives in the mountains, takes him in. The notary's daughter Leticia arrives in the mountains with a hunting party. Her fiancé, Jonescu, becomes jealous of Bagyoni and the trip ends in anger. Uz Bence, who has made money from the hunt, wants to marry his old lover, Julie, but she has already married someone else. At Bence's intervention, the notary cancels Bagyoni's sentence. Meanwhile, Julis' husband dies and she is left alone with the baby. Julis leaves the child in the care of Bence while she goes to the city to serve.

Kata Juhász is the shrew in this updating of Shakespeare's play. Kata's wedding is scheduled but her groom deserts her over her whims. In order to prevent the guests from being disappointed, she hires a tramp from the banks of the Danube to play the role of the groom. The tramp, Chief Engineer Péter Szabó, doesn't bend to her caprices. This leads to confusion and resolution in the Shakespearian fashion.

Anni, a young woman on the verge of divorce, moves into a hotel until the trial, where she meets a charming young man, Albert Sándor. Despite the fact that the lawsuit would prevent Anni from getting involved in a new relationship, she agrees to a compromising meeting. Only on the day of the trial does it become clear that Albert Sándor is the lawyer of Anni's husband, who doesn't want to hear about the divorce, and has been keeping a private eye on her. Anni thinks she is being set up.

Eve vows revenge, ready to do anything to disturb his peace.

A landowner Gáthy and his wife adopt an orphaned infant at the birth of their own son, only to realize too late that they can’t tell which baby is which. They raise both boys as their own until, on the brink of the sons’ marriages, questions of lineage brought up by prospective mothers and meddling mothers-in-law threaten to unravel their family.
