At the dinner table one night, a close-knit Romanian family is upset by a startling revelation.

Adi, a gay teenager, is spending the summer in his home village in the Danube Delta. One night he is brutally attacked on the street, the next day his world is turned upside-down. His parents no longer look at him as they did, and the seeming tranquility of the village starts to crack.

Doina, a Romanian student in China, wants to make it back to Bucharest in time for New Year's Eve after a long time away from home.

The tragic event of Robert's cat dying is quickly perceived by Ioana as an opportunity to forge a deeper connection with her friend. The burial turns odd when they are joined by his new girlfriend. An unannounced encounter between the human, the non-human, and the dense layers of feelings that are stratified in-between.

Irina wants to go to school, get her degree and escape her dysfunctional family. Liviu, her cousin, is a businessman who lives in a village. He doesn’t believe much in the importance of an education and finds himself at loggerheads with Irina, who would sacrifice anything to go to school.

Present day Bucharest. Estera is pursuing a job opportunity in Atlanta. She puts her hope in a "friend-interview" with Mike, a Romanian-American entrepreneur who reveals himself to be a domineering wreck with issues of his own.
