Exceptionally talented actor and bridge-builder between black and white, a political icon and artist at the same time: that was Sidney Poitier. He made Hollywood history in 1964 when he became the first black man to win an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role − and thus became the first international black superstar. He grew up in poor circumstances in the Bahamas − with only a few years of schooling. Despite this humble start, Sidney Poitier became a film legend committed artistically and politically against all odds. What compromises did he have to make? What shaped him? This documentary gives an intimate insight into the eventful life of the actor and director, who died in January 2022 at the age of 94.

A man attempts, in vain, to prevent another from suffering the consequences of a sinister curse associated with the Delver Mirror. He presents a dire warning, in the broadest possible terms, to the ill-fated central character as to the fantastical legend and insidious nature of the mirror. Slowly they advance upward through the labyrinth of sticky corridors until the attic door approaches.

In front of the camera, Rita Hayworth was the prototype of the ideal of American beauty, twirling alongside Fred Astaire or Gene Kelly. In her private life, shy and plagued by an inferiority complex, the actress multiplied the unhappy marriages. At 19, she married a businessman to escape an incestuous father. In 1943, she married the brilliant Orson Welles, who gave her a daughter and a misunderstood role in "The Lady of Shanghai". Prince Ali Khan and the singer Dick Haymes followed.

Schumann at Pier2 is not a usual concert film, it shows the 4 Symphonies of Schumann from a new perspective. Stars of the film are the conductor Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and it´s filmed at „Pier2“, a former dockyard in the harbour of Bremen.
