Uisenma Borchu

A young woman is searching for her roots and discovers an idiosyncratic, radical sensuality that not only transgresses Mongolian conventions but also those of the supposedly more liberal West.

Small-time crook Atris is tired of working for Berlin crime lord El Keitar. Yet in order to build his own syndicate, he needs money. When his friend Frank offers him a lucrative deal, Atris thinks his chance has finally come, not knowing that he is about to set in motion a fateful chain of events.

Hedi is the new neighbor of Iva, who raises her daughter Sofia by herself. The two women start a relationship and Iva is desperately in love with Hedi. Suddenly Iva's father appears. Hedi feels strongly attracted to him. It seems that only one world exists for Hedi. Her own.

The violinist, Irmgard Hitzig, is 89 and can’t sit up straight in her armchair any more. Nonetheless her passion for music is fierce and she approaches her work as a music teacher with an unrelenting vigour. Uisenma Borchu’s depiction of this very special woman emerges from their dialogue and interaction. This is not a classic portrait, rather the record of an encounter.

Khuyagaa is 10 years old and a good rider. He is a nomad, travelling with his parents, grandparents and siblings through the Gobi Desert in Mongolia all summer long. They have to look after the animals every day. Khuyagaa helps diligently when the herd of horses has to be brought in from the pasture or the goats have to be milked. At the end of the summer, school starts again for Khuyagaa. He only has time for his horse in the afternoon. Together with his friends, he goes for a ride through the village and looks forward to the weekend. Because then he can ride out into the vastness of the steppe at a wild gallop again.

Mongolia is known for its original Nomad culture as well as the spectacular natural landscape. Since gold deposits have been discovered however, both are threatened. Mongolians are breaking with their traditions and have started to plunder their land digging for gold. They are using mercury in their extraction of gold and thereby poisoning their environment. Gold rush rules Mongolia. The film tells the story of a couple of men who set forth on the search for the precious metal.

A documentary about bare facts. It shows how two girls get to know one another – naked in an apartment. It is a story of the beginning of a beautiful friendship, of daydreams and deep secrets.
