Olev Virkus is a completely ordinary man of no considerable wealth or achievements. Sometimes, however, he has to drop everything he's doing and go away for a while. Only then can he keep on living in peace. The film is based on the short story The King by Mehis Heinsaar.

Fleeing from the Russian secret police, a young Estonian fencer is forced to return to his homeland, where he becomes a physical education teacher at a local school. The past however catches up and puts him in front of a difficult choice.
