Swedish version of Norwegian National Author Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson's novel.

Based on a Finnish poem, The Kingdom of Rye is a gorgeous romantic drama set in rural northern Sweden during the harvest. It features a young couple whose love affair is fraught with Hardy-esque complications and an unhappily married wife of the landowner.

"How crazy!" A man and a woman watch episodes from Nils Poppe movies outside a cinema Maxim in Stockholm. Poppe represents, among other things, a poor composer who vainly tries to get a tune adopted by a publisher. The failure makes him depressed, but he is living it up by meeting a good friend Calle, who invites him home. Poppe stays for a few days as a male housewife. Calle has a music store and there the two friends can go crazy among all the instruments.

Maria, who's called Raggen, is one of a total of 9 daughters in the family. For a birthday present, Raggen gets a trip to Paris.

Greger Anner, a student from Uppsala, comes to Ådalen to pursue geological studies. He meets the beautiful and imaginative chalet-girl Sago-Gunnel from Ortorpsgården and they share a blissful summer of love.

Sven Bergström is charged with murder, alternatively a man slaughter, on an infamous professional poker player called "The Rover". The trial is in progress. In retrospect, we witness Svens life until the time of the crime.
