The year 1997... In the days when people are exiled for their thoughts, now the tables have turned and the freedom of a cow living in the village of Gomalak is in danger. Living on his own under a modest roof, Sami makes a living as a mural painter. One day, he learns that his doting grandmother has passed away and left him a small chest full of calligraphy materials. At first, Sami rather dismisses the contents of the chest, so much so that he even considers getting rid of them. But then he meets Selma at the library where he has been commissioned to do a mural, and the introduction marks a turning point for him. Selma, an attractive and dignified woman with the impeccable manners of an old Istanbul family, once took up calligraphy herself. With her guidance and encouragement, Sami embarks on learning the practice of calligraphy. He is helped in his endeavours by Esref Efendi, a gifted but demanding old-generation calligrapher, whose distaste for the present state of calligraphy has deterred him from taking on students for some time. And the master is quick to steer Sami towards love.

Meryem, a young woman of 18, has been married for 18 months. But after six days of marriage, her husband left for Istanbul and hasn't reappeared since. As the days turn into weeks and months, Meryem longs for Mustafa and a settled married life, but she doesn't give up hope.

Fikret works at the library. He is married and has a ten-year-old son. He literally has a routine life. With his wife leaving home, he loses his ability to continue his daily life. His son suddenly finds himself in the position of his father's father. The film tells the story of a father with high functioning autism and his "normal" son.

The film depicts a world in which Atatürk never became leader, the War of Independence never took place, and the Ottoman Republic continues to exist in a form adapted to the present day. The continuation of the Ottoman Republic instead of the Republic of Turkey, Ankara not being the capital, signs and license plates being in both Turkish and Arabic, and the sultan wearing a suit under his caftan are some of the tragicomic situations that make up the film's story.

In one parallel coming-of-age story, Kaan is faced with being uprooted from home; in the other, Berke is faced with bullying. Both demonstrate that when you know and choose what you want - Make a Wish - you can change your life.

Bekir loves Uğur, who loves Zagor, who is about to get out of jail. An already tense love triangle is thrown into turmoil on a hot summer night, when Zagor kills someone, and Uğur disappears.
