Ana returns to Buenos Aires to claim her inheritance. She meets her father's close friend Dr. Benedetti, a scientist, where he has discovered a doorway to another dimension which allows Ana to reconvene with the dead.

A young man has to go back to his childhood home and a neighborhood that is now unknown to him; a child suffers his father's paranoia and violence; two siblings fight to hold on to the only things they have left. Three stories intersect in what seems to be an endless blackout that will bring out their darkest sides.

In 1847 Buenos Aires, a young noblewoman and a young Jesuit fall in love, much to the disapproval of her family and the Church.

In 1930s Argentina, dim-witted Rufino and Jacinto are hired as tough guys ("guapos") by political boss Malatesta to intimidate his opponents, rig elections, etc. However, the two men change allegiances when they meet the lovely Mercedes and La Mendocina, victims of Malatesta and his gang.

Buenos Aires movie director, very fond of the legend of the King of Patagonia and Araucania, decides to make a movie about it. Despite of financial troubles, technical problems, misfortune and desertions, he undertakes the journey to Patagonia for the film with a second-rate actor company. Neglected by the producer and shortly after by the company, he will make the movie alone, in a surreal landscape like mad.

A playwright going through a period of crisis returns to his childhood home and begins to nostalgically recall the relationships that shaped his life.
