Xueiv - anagram of old -, was created in 1982 from an initiative of the association Vieillir autrement, mobilizing in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais regions "thousands of people, miners, farmers, trade unionists, retirees or high school students to reflect on aging... and on life itself ".

By testifying to living and working conditions in working-class areas, this militant documentary already denounced rampant urbanism while proposing alternatives for better living in the city.
