In 1916, Finland is still a part of Russian Empire. Eugen Schauman murders the governor of Finland, and his fellow activists take on smaller tasks in the fight for freedom.

The year is 1895 in a small village in Savo, where new ideas such as women's rights and folk high schools are vehemently opposed by Pastor Jussilainen, both in his home and in the parish. His wife Eveliina, the maids, and the conservative parishioners all experience his vehemence. However, the pastor meets his match when his mother-in-law arrives for a visit.

Niskavuori's Aarne (Arne från Niskavuori) is a Finnish drama film from 1954. It is based on Hella Wuolijoki's play Niskavuori's Bread. Miss Europe Hunting (1955) is a romantic comedy directed by Erik Blomberg and co-written with Lars-Eric Malmlund, which utilizes material recorded during the Miss Europe competitions held in Finland. The story follows the career and relationship development of bird photographer Antero Lintunen (Lasse Pöysti) and American journalist Evelyn McNutty (Lippe Hokkanen). In the path signified by coincidences and misunderstandings, they also find each other.

Inspector Puosu investigates the murder of smuggler Nelly with journalist Harn. Doubts are directed at wholesaler Antti Rajapalo, whose innocence is believed only by Rajapalo's secretary Ane Arvila.
