Cheuk Pak-Tong

A group of Mainlanders fleeing the Cultural Revolution risk all to reach the adjacent British ‘haven’ of Hong Kong; yet what they find there is a far cry from their dreams of liberty.

Peter Yu goes on a business trip to the Philippines leaving his lovely wife and two children behind him. While conducting business there he saves a desperate girl from a number of pursuers. The girl is Marianna (Anna Malai) and she’s the cause of a deadly rivalry between two native tribes. The leader of one of the tribes wants to marry her, but Marianna and her tribe want nothing to do with them. Marianna escapes to HK where she finds Peter and persuades him to hire her as a maid so that she can hide out. Nancy, Peter's wife, isn't too keen on the idea especially when she discovers her husband’s infidelity. Nancy leaves HK to visit her relative in the Philippines and Peter follows to make amends. They decide to go on a road trip where hopefully they can begin anew. Their scenic tour goes askew immediately and soon turns into a horrific nightmare; as they too are pursued by the tribe that is after Marianna.

Ah Wei used to be a policeman but his many battle scars and bullet wounds have demoted him to the daily grind of a sercurity guard. His existence is anything but boring, however, as this Hong Kong film like all the others, thrives on shoot-outs, chases, and enough violence to keep an audience awake.

The film tells the story of bodyguard Lam Tuan Hien hired by Thieu Trong Hanh to protect his wife, Vien Khiet Doanh. But behind this contract lies a cruel plot: the person who wants to kill her is none other than her husband! During the days of protecting Vien Khiet Doanh, Lam Tuan Hien gradually develops feelings, creating an ambiguous and dangerous relationship between the boss and the bodyguard, pushing both into a love-hate spiral that is difficult to escape.
