One day, in the small peaceful town of Barrio Malinawon, seven young punks, who call themselves the Iskalawags because of their shared love for Filipino action movies (particularly those starred by their idol Jeric Raval), decide to set out on a mini quest to find the tree that according to Palot-the gang's de facto leader-bears the lone papaya fruit as large as the belly of Intoy's father.

In a rural seaside town, north of Cebu, Philippines, fisher folks face the harsh reality of human-induced environmental conditions. Fueled by the consequences of dwindling marine resources, Randy, a late 20's fisherman, has delved into the world of cockfighting. He wants to make his first try in the town's derby. His mother tells him that he can find hope and luck if he participates in the city's solemn procession for the feast of Senior Santo Nino. At the same time, Tonyo, a fellow fisher folk, invites Randy to take part in their fight against coral harvesters. Ultimately, Randy has to make a choice between his devotion or the struggle of the people.

In 2007, during the Saffron Revolution in Myanmar, thousands of people take to the streets to protest the oppressive military regime. When a young Buddhist monk runs for his life as the soldiers disperse a demonstration, he finds himself at the door of a Muslim woman.
