Alyona, a young rock-climber suddenly becomes an owner of a very powerful historical artefact.

In 1951, the well-known Czech actress Jiřina Štěpničková receives a letter from Austria from director František Čáp, who has recently emigrated. He invites her to the West and promises her roles in theater and film. She decides to seize the opportunity and flee. Together with a small group of people and her young son Jirka, she entrusts herself to a smuggler and embarks on a risky journey across the border. But something goes wrong. They are caught. Everything had been planned in advance. The smuggler himself is a member of the StB. But that's only the beginning.

Not long after, he finds himself in the middle of a dangerous conflict between journalists and the secret service.

Drug dealer Šárlí ended up with a knife in his liver during a drunken brawl as a group of teenagers left a pub late at night. Commissioner Vašátko, who is already enjoying his retirement, is drawn into the investigation by the young man's grandmother, Forejtová, an old acquaintance of his late wife. It turns out that Vašátko's friend, the painter Horác, knows another member of the group, 16-year-old Zbyněk, whom he taught painting some time ago. Zbyněk is struggling with his authoritarian and precise father, the businessman Bouzek, and is clearly hiding something. Vašátko and Horác eventually uncover the background to the murder and its perpetrator. But first, they have to understand the titular "bug," as Vašátko calls the detail that doesn't fit in a criminal case. If the detail is not clarified, the case cannot be closed. In this story, the "bug" is a shoe found at the scene of the crime that does not belong to any of the participants in the altercation.

But Svatý Štěpán, which his family had to leave in 1939, is no longer the same place it used to be. However, even in his wildest dreams, he could not have imagined what really awaited him there.

Unfortunately, the evil elf Pižlík also has his eye on her, and his power grows in proportion to the foolishness at the royal court. He is looking forward to marrying her, turning all his subjects into tiny people, and becoming their tiny ruler. The wizard Fuk and his apprentice Kuklík can no longer stand by and watch, and decide to help the kingdom. At that time, the pear of wisdom ripens in the royal garden, the only one in a hundred years. What will Fuk's confusion cause when he gives the magic pear to the poor young man Drátařík instead of the prince?

Set in Czechoslovakia, the drama follows the lives of its characters against the backdrop of real historical events that shape their personal stories. To evoke period atmosphere, the series intersperses authentic clips from vintage Czechoslovak film newsreels, using their original commentaries or newly recorded historical voice-overs by Vladimír Fišer. A narrator, initially voiced by Vojtěch Kotek and later by Matěj Hádek, provides continuity and reflection, guiding viewers through changing times. Under the guidance of screenwriter Rudolf Merkner, each episode’s script weaves family and individual dramas into key moments of Czech and Slovak history: political shifts, cultural trends, and social transformations from the 1960s onward.
