Winifred Westover

The story of a poor young woman, separated by prejudice from her husband and baby, is interwoven with tales of intolerance from throughout history.

"Fatty", a poor good hearted farm boy is deeply in love with Winifred, a farmer's daughter. A rich neighbor offers the farmer a large plot of land if Winifred marries his slow witted son Al. "Fatty" has less then one day to save heartbroken Winifred from the rushed ceremony.

In an attempt to brand himself as a serious actor, the smiling swashbuckler Douglas Fairbanks starred in THE HALF-BREED (1916), a Western melodrama written by Anita Loos and directed with flair by Allan Dwan. Fairbanks stars as Lo Dorman, who has been ostracized from society because of this mixed ethnicity - his Native American mother was abandoned by his white father. A ranch owner runs afoul of a land grabber, and both of them are in love with the same girl, the daughter of a railroad owner.

"Squint" Taylor owns a ranch and has a much older mining partner. When the partner is fatally wounded, he makes Taylor promise to take care of his daughter Marion. Taylor is more than happy to do his bidding, but Marion and her uncle are both involved with William Carrington, who is trying to cheat them out of her share of the mine.

Russell Carrington accepts the blame for a murder charge to protect Rita, the woman he loves, from being accused of killing her husband. However, a media exposé on Dey's father causes a rift, driving her to a mountain retreat to uncover the truth. After Conover confesses his love, he faces a series of escalating crises—including mentally willing Dey back to life after a drowning accident and surviving a dramatic train crash—before ultimately destroying his rivals.

Five down-on-their-luck miners in Circle City, Alaska gather at a local hotel, desperate to recoup their depleted finances. MacDonald, a former football star, suggests they buy an insurance policy on whichever man draws the fatal ace. At the end of the year, that man would commit suicide so the remaining four could collect the payout. MacDonald purposefully draws the ace, but soon after discovers a gold vein in his mine. He abandons the suicidal insurance plan and shares his newfound wealth with the group. The fortune also saves a woman named Emily—who traveled to the harsh north to marry a man who turned out to be broke—and she begins a romance with MacDonald instead.

Lummox is a 1930 American Pre-Code sound film directed by Herbert Brenon, released through United Artists, and based on a 1923 novel by Fannie Hurst. The story of Bertha, a young immigrant woman who cleans the homes of the rich and is largely ignored by them, except for a young poet who considers her a muse.

When Judge Meredith needs a graduation dress for his granddaughter Caroline, but can't afford it, John comes to the rescue by offering to board at the judge's residence.

Richard Chester, a bachelor who has lost everything in a poker game, blunders into the apartment of Nora Ellis, who has just inherited a fortune under the stipulation that she marry immediately. Assuming the name Chester Dick, Richard marries Nora and leaves. Unaware of this marriage of convenience, Charles Renalls, Nora's suitor, later assumes that her wealth is the only impediment to their union and conspires to ruin her on the market. Upon learning of his scheme, Richard ruins Charles. Nora falls in love with Richard, not recognizing her benefactor as her husband of an evening. Hoping to spoil Richard's chances with Nora, Charles tells her that Richard is already married and that he carries his wife's picture in his pocket. To her surprise and delight, Nora discovers that the incriminating picture is her own photograph and that Richard is already her husband.

War hero Captain November Jones tries to sneak into his hometown of Gold City, Nevada undetected but when he rescues a child from being run over by a train he’s recognized and obliged to receive the town's congratulations. Meanwhile, unscrupulous stockbroker Samuel Barnes and adventuress Teddy Craig are trying to get control of the Bluebird Lode from New Yorker Jackson J. Joseph, who is coming West to meet his daughter Nedra. Teddy tries to ensnare November to help fight Joseph, claiming he's trying to take her mine, but he refuses. Teddy's accusation of Jones's cowardice does not bother him until he falls in love with Nedra, who shuns him, believing Teddy's rumor. When Mr. Joseph is kidnapped and Jones saves him Nedra learns the truth and agrees to marry him.

A farce of comic characters, full of dream-like impossible doings that compel laughter through being so impossible. One of the characters is in a room where a bomb is exploded. He is blown up through the chimney, takes a jump from the roof and lands on a horse quietly waiting below and gallops off. The whole story is of this same material.

Peter and Inga regularly try to convince their bachelor friend Pingel of the many sterling benefits of marriage. Until, that is, an argument about housekeeping causes a rift in the young people’s marriage and Peter dramatically leaves home – determined never to return. Soon after, Inga’s uncle from America announces his arrival, and she persuades Pingel to pretend to be Peter, whom the uncle has been looking forward to meeting.
