The "sleepless years" in this propaganda piece by director Felix Marlassy occur on Csepel Island, an island south of Budapest that is home to an armaments factory. The factory workers are shown being exploited by imperialists, capitalists gone berserk, and fascists, more or less in that exact chronological sequence. The heavy-handed approach does much to undercut the belief that when socialism finally takes over, the lives of the workers are brought up to a human level. In this instance, audiences might prefer a more nuanced and subtle statement, no matter what the message.

Based on Confession, a play by Rose Meller. Elma Bulla repeats her stage role as a young woman who takes the blame for a theft which she believes was committed by her lover. The ungrateful jerk assumes that she did commit the crime, and further supposes that she did it on behalf of his romantic rival. Throughout the rest of the film, Bulla tries to revoke her confession, only to find that no one will believe her. Only when the genuine culprit is revealed is Bulla cleared and reunited with her sweetheart -- though if ever there was a man unworthy of her devotion, it is surely this one! Devotees of newcomer Elma Bulla were thoroughly satisfied with this screen version of her theatrical triumph.

About the life of young people in Hungary in the late 50s, their joys, hopes and dreams. When Joly entered the factory, she wanted to be as cheerful and carefree as the other girls, and she didn't tell anyone that she had a son. And now, when the wedding day with Ferenc is almost set, Yoli walks around sad and confused. She doesn't know how Feri will take the news of her son. She is afraid that Feri, who loves and trusts her very much, will never understand or forgive her. But Feri turns out to be a real man, and Yoli together with little Ali finds her true happiness.

The life of King Béla IV's daughter is brought to life in the film. Blessed Margaret of the House of Árpád was raised from the age of nine in the monastery of the Domokos nuns on the island of Nyulak. In the neighbouring monastery live monks, among them Jancsi, the gardener's son, who is charmed by the little princess. The feeling of love gives him the cross and the adolescent boy becomes a monk among the "prisoners of God".

Károly Makk strings together two novellas by Tibor Déry. A téglafal mögött is set in the early 1950s. Comrade Bódi, an embittered party worker, reports his fellow workers who are stealing ‘the assets of the people’ from the factory. During the subsequent public investigation, one of them commits suicide. The camera of Makk tells the story of the period through the crumpled face of Jozef Króner, the blank, hopeless stare of Mari Törőcsik and images of a decaying factory site. In Philemon és Baucis, like in Szerelem, the subject of ageing is tied to the traumas of the 1950s. History turns the idyllic private life of an elderly couple (Elma Bulla and Antal Páger) upside down. The 1956 uprising sweeps an injured fighter their way. Emilia Odor is a young, seventeen year old girl. She end up in a rural girl institute, which has strict rules, a hypocrite faculty and she soon starts to rebel against it. Her schoolmates support her until then the manager announce a competition among the students: the most deserving student will participant in the millenial festival in Budapest.

1932, Budapest. Gere János, an unemployed worker searching for employment in the capital, is organised into the secret police after a raid. Slowly, Gere learns that his companion is a Communist and his task is to keep the press machine hidden from the police.

Willi lends his voice to a speech-impaired professor, but the baroness who falls in love with Hörbiger only does so because of Willi's voice, and this leads to all sorts of complications…

Jirka is a composer, his wife, Jana, a pianist. Jana would like to have an own concert, but so far she has only been selected to accompany Valenta during his concerts in Budapest. After some resentments, she accepts the proposal.

1952. The workers who have performed the reconstruction of the bridges are now needed at the construction works of the underground railway. During admission they are diluted with elements of doubtful fame and many of them are in a bad mood for the wages, too.
