However, Michalis does not remember the trap they fell into, where his two companions were killed and he himself was wounded, while the fourth was absent. Yannis had disappeared but suddenly returns to his home, and his presence upsets Michalis. Yannis' father quickly understands why: his son, in order to save his own skin, had betrayed his friends to the Germans. An honest man and a fiery patriot, he tries his son on charges of high treason, finds him guilty, and executes him.
