This drama premiered in Zagreb in 1935. The plot shows a young man from a well-to-do bourgeois family facing the anger of his parents over his absences from high school, behind which stands his forbidden love with a girl of humble working-class background.

Kreso is in the eighth grade of elementary school and loves motorcycles and playing pinball. Because of his hobbies, he has a reputation as a bad boy, and he doesn't fare any better with grades either. His single mother is torn between jobs and has no understanding for his problems, so the boy is left to manage on his own.

Accumulated social problems and the growing terror of Italians lead to great miners' strike, led by favorite union leader Ivan Pipan. The strikers will be join young miner Ive Blazina, who as commander of the Red Guard workers struggles for the mining republic and the love of beautiful Mary Brezac. The sudden intervention of the Italian army destroys their dreams, and resigned Pipan surrenders. But not everyone agrees with his behavior.

The film deals with issues of life and work in self-governing socialist enterprises, i.e. the problems caused by the application of the Law on Associated Labor which passed several years before. The protagonists are the metal company workers who are launching a strike due to the reduction of salaries.
