Mirko, bored with his extravagant life, decides to spend his vacation alone, far from the company of his Prague friends. He even makes a bet with a friend that he will go a month without any funds, luxuries, a car and...without a kiss.

Sixth-year student Eva Martenová falls in love with the new young professor Jiří Hron. She cannot concentrate in his lessons, even though she is as well prepared as ever for teaching. On a school trip, Professor Bruncvíková tries to win Hron over, but the professor dances with Eva at a party. At school, Eva's thoughts are elsewhere again and she refuses to give Bruncvíková Hron's portrait. She goes to Hron's office crying and he tries to calm her down. His friendly gesture is seen by Professor Bernard, who had previously had reservations about Hron's modern teaching methods. He informs the principal that Hron was holding student Martenová in his arms. When Eva learns that Hron is facing disciplinary proceedings because of her, she attempts suicide. However, her friend Martina's brother, Dr. Pavel Haler, saves her. In the hospital, Eva is visited by a vindicated Hron and confesses his love for her.

However, he does not know her name and accidentally comes to Elvíra's villa. The diva is not at home. Florian finds a love letter in the villa and thinks it is addressed to him. However, upon his return, Elvíra mercilessly throws Florian out...

The factory owner Hložek is in a constant dispute with his son Jiří. Jiří wants to modernize the factory, but his father is afraid that the new machines will deprive the workers of their jobs. Then even the viewers of this typical First Republic girl's romance can conclude with emotion that the world is not so bad after all, when a poor girl can achieve success in it through diligence and hard work.

Mr. Ducháček runs the law firm of JUDr. Faukner in a peculiar but completely devoted manner, which manages the financial affairs of the Rispaldic family. The orphan Eliška Irovská, nicknamed Líza, arrives in her native village of Ptačice. As an orphan she is housed in the local poorhouse and has to go out begging. Her guardian Petr Tumlíř, however, sees that she is competent enough to go to school.

An employee of the funeral home Pleticha calls his superior. He overhears that he is supposed to buy a wedding gift and deliver it to his boss's relatives. He therefore sets off to the given address to organize the funeral. When the mistake is explained, Pleticha, in return for the entertainment, performs dances and songs of various nations for the wedding guests. One of the guests, grandfather Boleslav Hnipírdo, experienced a train collision near Vrňany on his way to Prague. Since he was not injured, he does not even want to ask for compensation. Pleticha takes advantage of this and goes to the railway headquarters with his leg bandaged. He pretends to be Hnipírdo and is questioned in detail about his journey. Thanks to his talkativeness, he reveals, among other things, that he jumped on a moving train, drove illegally, spat on the window and tore off the emergency brake...

You will meet the family of the miller Kaliba, who is proud not only of his mill, but also of the family tradition, according to which the milling profession has been passed down at the inn's mill for almost three hundred years. And since Mr. Kaliba has no son, it is certain that his only daughter Liduška must marry a miller. Perhaps this would have happened if the Kalibas had not gone to the anniversary exhibition. Here, Liduška meets the handsome engineer Karel Loukota, who is an overly zealous member of the cycling club "Don't Get Married!", but is not immune to love at all. Of course, he will face many hardships and obstacles, the biggest of which is, of course, the miller Kaliba with his fierce efforts to uphold the family tradition...
