The childhood of Kerdo, the lead singer of the scandalous pop duo Respekt, was anything but rosy. Stepfathers struggling with alcoholism and a constant sense of homelessness have left their mark. His dream of becoming a famous singer is the only certainty that stays with him. But the life of an artist is full of obstacles and temptations. Only escaping into fantasies helps him survive. When his grandmother sacrifices her savings to bring his big dream even closer, he is consumed by an infernal euphoria. Yet, not even Paris can fulfill all his desires and demands. Reality keeps pulling Kerdo onto the wrong path. Somehow, finding fame, fortune, and love all at once seems impossible. Is it already too late to make the right choices? But what is "right" for anyone? Why was I born this way? There is only one Kerdo – but inside him, there is also God and the Devil! Who will win? Even the doctors at the psychiatric hospital don't understand.

The young country of Estonia is dancing to the jazzy tune of the 1920's when on December 1, 1924, the capital Tallinn is overrun by members of the Comintern in an attempt to stage a Communist coup. The film follows the fates of a young soldier called Tanel and his wife, a telephone operator named Anna, amidst the ensuing chaos which determines whether the country remains independent or becomes a minor province in the Communist Empire.

Having lived for his pleasure most of his life, floor polisher Ivan Karetnikov, on the threshold of his 60th birthday, did not for the first time leave his next wife himself, but she abandoned him, moreover, in public. In addition to these troubles, he was fired from his job, replaced by a mechanical polisher. In this difficult moment, Karetnikov remembered the first wife, and then the second and third. But turning to each of them, he seems to begin to lose hope of seeing compassion for himself.
