Corso Salani

Imatra is a Finnish town on the border with Russia in South Karelia. Bianca, a Spanish teacher, went to live and work there to escape a complicated relationship. Her ex-boyfriend joins her: his assignment is to make an industrial documentary on the preparation of wood pulp. Corso Salani is a true exception in the Italian film scene. A director and actor of undoubted quality, he is constantly committed to new projects that have originality as their main characteristic. This is the case of the series "I confini d'Europa" of which Imatra is the third chapter. Salani wants to explore places that are on the edges of that complex organism that is now the European Union.

In the 1950s, a big stir was made by a book (and its corresponding movie) called The Ugly American. Its subject was the grievous damage done to local cultures by well-meaning but essentially clueless (and frequently arrogant) representatives of the U.S. Since then, the phenomenon of cultural damage cause by arrogant tourists and visitors has been demonstrated to be something everyone is capable of. In this thoughtful, comic drama, the subject is Italians overseas. In this film, Malindi Kenya is the playground of rich Italians.

When Lucia, a woman disappointed in both men and conventional jobs who has started to work as a prostitute, calls them to repair a sink, for Stefano it's love at first sight.

A Polish girl decides to return home after eight years spent in various places in Europe. She makes the journey in a van and in the company of the members of a film crew who, on the long road from Rome to the Baltic coast, make a documentary about her and her story. The girl offers an account of some of the hardest moments in her life, from when she became involved in prostitution in Poland to when she arrived in Italy, the victim of violence, exploitation and abuse of all kinds.

At the end of his latest film, Palabras, Corso Salani indicts against his own crew. A long monologue goes on, while the images of the casting, of the rehearsals, of the set, flow. Lead actress Paloma Calle and the whole crew are accused of destroying the deep artistic and personal bind between Salani and his actress. In doing so, they helped in making the two drift apart. The film is now over, but emotions and feelings felt don't seem to fade out. The frames become the background of a love letter which is violent and desperate, the sign of wasted time, of the bitterness of what is and what could have been.

A detective is investigating on Andres Carrera, speech-writer of a politician man. Andres disappeared during the electoral campaign. The detective slowly 'penetrates' in Andres' life: he begins to live at Andres' home; to work at Andres' office; to meet Andres' parents; to seek a sort of relation with Andres' wife and colleagues. The election campaign is going on, but nobody can write so 'poetic' and so 'politic' speeches as Andres did. What is the secret of his speeches? Why his nickname was "Whitman", like American poet? Why Andres disappeared and where he is now? And why the detective is so interested in it, beyond his professional task? Maybe being in relation with Andres parents and wife will reveal every solution to the detective. Or it will include everything in a dream...

Corso Salani's voice for "Dove sono stato", a film about the disappearance of a friend, is now embodied in the places where he should have starred in a film. Empty fields, which will forever miss the body of the missing friend, to document the absence and listen once again to a dear voice.

"Dove Sono Stato" is a film that tells of the sudden disappearance of a man during a trip and of a friend who follows in his footsteps. All footage was filmed in Portugal in 1994; I wrote the text and edited the video in the early months of 2000 following obligatory passages, already existing faces and places to which I gave a role and a time that was foreign to them: unaware, and false, traveling companions.

The miniseries tells the eight double murders committed from 1968 to 1985, in the Florentine countryside, where young couples who were massacred appartavano in their cars looking for intimacy. It particularly emphasizes the personal battle of Renzo Rontini, father of Pia killed with her boyfriend Claudio Stefanacci in Vicchio, in Mugello (29 July 1984), in the search for the culprit of the death of his daughter.
