This is a story about a Neapolitan guy, Antonello, immigrant in Turin, who, for a living, hooks on the street as Rosatigre. Sasà, a friend of his, tries to bring him back to Naples, but, after a tortured decision, Antonello chooses to come back North and to keep living “on the street”.

There are moments in life when, suddenly, everything stops. For Michelangelo, a young aspiring writer about to publish his first book, everything comes to a halt with the death of his father, forcing him to abandon his ambitions and provide for his family. Antonio, a successful manager accustomed to a perfect life, finds himself imprisoned by his wife's inability to overcome the death of their daughter. Giulia, on the other hand, is a young woman who has just given birth, whose husband had an accident shortly before their daughter's birth and is in a coma, in the same hospital where their daughter was born. Giulia lives there day and night, waiting for her husband to wake up: only then will she name her daughter. The interrupted lives of these three characters intertwine, waiting to find the turning point, the path that will lead them home.

The young Carabiniere Gatta is sent to barracks in the Naples area. It's 1946 and the war is still hanging in the air even if the small community doesn't seem to have been affected that much by it. Even so, certain suspicions take root in the brigadier's mind. The hotel in the town was the setting for unexplained deaths and crimes that had been covered up. Gatta decides to investigate. Fragments begin to emerge, killers and their victims take shape and speak to each other from different times. There's the hotel owner, a grief-striken mother, a weak son and long-suffering sister, an orphan and two woman who were violently killed. Pain, indifference and shame cast a shadow over everything.

Cesare Settembre is a twenty-six year old studying law to follow in the footsteps of his lawyer father. On the eve of his last exam, Cesare falls ill with depression and begins to remain secluded at home, completely deprived of strength. The only person to try to help him is his friend Antonio, while his mother seems more concerned with taking care of the strange plant she keeps in her room, his father is only interested in his son's university career. To find a purpose in life, Cesare falls in love with Milena, Antonio's girlfriend, but in the meantime his family falls into chaos.
