After losing one of his horses in an accident, an illiterate horse cab driver sets out into the desert in a quest for a mythical lost treasure.

In Deliviran, a village near Urfa close to the Syrian border, Hidir’s chief is involved in smuggling and gets shot. Hidir tries to stay out of illegal activities but circumstances contrive to push him in the opposite direction until he accepts to take a herd of sheep across the border.

The story follows a group of prison escapees who form a gang and engage in a power struggle among themselves.

The film tells the story of a man who loses his memory. Murat is a famous and successful racing driver. He also owns a tyre factory. Before participating in the Turkish Rally, Kenan, Murat's cousin, plants a bomb in Murat's car. His aim is to kill Murat and take his fortune. In the accident, Murat's car explodes. As his body is not found, it is assumed that Murat is dead. However, after the accident, Murat has lost his memory and started a new life. But an event he experiences brings him back to his old life.

Murat cannot find a job because he spent some time in prison. At the same time, his creditors are constantly pressuring him. One day, while looking for work, Murat runs into an old friend. Kadir takes Murat to his workplace. Murat starts working as a manager, but later realizes that the company is involved in dirty business. The company, headed by Ziya, is involved in the illegal car trade. Murat, who has been signing documents for some time, realizes that all the blame will fall on him. During a police raid, he escapes with the documents that will save him. However, before he can go to the police, he must first rescue his family from Ziya's grasp.

Mavi Sürgün is a fictionalized account of one period of the life of a Turkish journalist who was condemned to exile for an article he wrote in 1925. He turned his punishment into a reward by creating a little paradise in what is today the holiday resort, Bodrum. In fact he is considered by some to be the first ecologist. The film concentrates on this latter aspect of his character and through flashbacks portrays the inner turmoil of a man who is trying to come to terms with his past. The slow pace is somewhat of a drawback, the flashbacks are often confusing and the protagonist is not always very convincing. But the photography of the country side is exceptional Kenan Ormanlar and the short appearance by a very theatrical Hanna Schygulla of Fassbinder fame adds a little spice to the drama.
