Meanwhile Fiore also plots to steal André's money with his gang.

However, he never collects the winnings, as he is struck and killed by a vehicle beforehand; the winning ticket ends up being buried with him. Angelina, Zezão’s wife, and their four children—Pedro, Jesus, André, and Maria de Fátima—search everywhere for the ticket, until Angelina has a vision of her late husband. In the vision, he reveals that he was buried with the ticket, which was tucked into the pocket of his suit jacket. Angelina then decides to exhume Zezão’s body. When the coffin is opened, the family discovers the corpse wearing only his underwear and concludes that the ticket has been stolen. This sets the stage for the soap opera's main plot: the search for the missing ticket.

Set in Rio de Janeiro, the main plot follows the romantic adventures of four young people: Sônia, Joyce, Paulo, and Carlos. The youngest, Joyce, was raised by her aunt and uncle, Flávia and Dario Rodrigues, following her mother's death and her father's disappearance. Dario and Flávia are Sônia's parents, and they raised both girls as sisters. The story becomes even more complicated with the arrival of Carlos, a young man of humble origins who falls for Joyce the moment he meets her. Joyce, however, does not reciprocate his advances and spurns his interest. Increasingly in love with Paulo, she even pretends to be blind after an accident—solely to remain close to the doctor—and proves willing to do whatever it takes to keep Sônia out of her way.

'Cuca Legal' tells the story of Mário Barroso, a single aviator involved with three women at the same time: Virgínia, Irene, and Fátima. Virgínia is a wealthy businesswoman obsessed with the direction of her late father's business; Irene is a middle-class young woman who gives private piano lessons; and Fátima is a poor widow. Mário can't decide which of them is the ideal woman to give him a child with a "cool head" (cuca legal). Things get even more complicated when Maria Joaquina, nicknamed Kinu, Virgínia's mother, also catches the aviator's attention. To escape the troubles he constantly gets into, Mário relies on the help of his mother, Dalva, and Jacaré, his great friend.

Manoela is employed in the home of Donato, an employee at a cosmetics factory, and Carolina. After her boss's death, Carolina finds herself unprepared to deal with the serious financial difficulties and fires Manoela, who agrees to work for free, becoming a kind of guardian angel, advisor, and administrator of the house. To pay the mortgage on the property, she suggests that Carolina rent out two of the vacant rooms. The new tenants are four students who have recently arrived in Rio to take the university entrance exam. During their studies, the young men meet Marcelo, nicknamed Belo, who falls in love with Manoela. The relationship gives her the opportunity, for the first time, to forget about other people's problems and live her own life.
