Slovakia, on the eve of the outbreak of World War II. The family of the young Jewish Martin Friedmann gathers to celebrate his bar mitzvah and make a solemn promise that they will all meet again a year later around the same table; but the storms of war and anti-Semitic fanaticism will lead each of them down very different paths.

Monika, a woman in her fifties, feels that she has reached all the important milestones in her life. Her child is grown up and she is very successful in her career as a workaholic. However, she has less and less in common with her husband, and her thoughts are increasingly returning to her youth, when she was not afraid to go off the beaten track and could appreciate the beauty of the moment. Monika decides to discover her adventurous self and enrols in a climbing course organised by Igor. He is the absolute opposite of Monika - a spontaneous and chaotic fool, a lifelong adventurer with no self-reflection and no sense of responsibility, who is mired in problems caused by his carefree lifestyle.

A car thief driven by a love of cash finds his priorities shift when he falls for a college student but his conversion has dangerous consequences.

The romantic relationship between Maťa and Veronika turns into a complicated, life-threatening triangle. They will be affected by a brutal struggle for power, in a network of intrigue and corruption in the shadow of the mafia, which does not even shy away from political murder. Thailand seems far enough away - an ideal hideout for a couple of criminals from Eastern Europe, who have no idea that they themselves can become easy prey for larger predators. How will a lone warrior who fights with the shadows of his past cope in this madness? Can some love still save him and can he realize it before it's too late? Is it even possible to escape from this crazy carousel?

In the royal castle, Prince Matthias feels like a prisoner. His father forces him to get engaged to Princess Beatrix, whom he does not love. Matthias takes advantage of a chance encounter with the rogue Tomas, who is his identical double. The boys swap clothes and agree to try on each other's lives for a day. In the morning, Matej is wrongly accused of theft and imprisoned. Tomas has to stay in the castle and although he tries to convince the king that he is not the true prince, no one believes him. The two boys must face a world they have never known before, grow up and learn to take responsibility for their decisions. Their reward will be that they both find true love.

Longtime friends and strangers mingle while spending the holiday on the snowy Slovakian mountains with an ample dose of ridiculousness and romance.

Based on real characters and events, this haunting drama focuses on the personal sacrifice of a Prague history student, Jan Palach, who set himself on fire in protest against the Soviet occupation of Czechoslovakia in 1969. Dagmar Burešová, a young female lawyer, became part of his legacy by defending Jan's family in a trial against the communist government, a regime which tried to dishonour Palach’s sacrifice, a heroic action for the freedom of Czechoslovakia.
