1958: during the Russian campaign, a military priest is called upon to assist Private Baranowski, who has been sentenced to death for desertion, on his last night. It is also the last night before the departure for Stalingrad, which the soldiers know means certain death. The priest leaves his room to a captain so that he can meet his fiancée one last time. He himself remains in Baranowski's cell and struggles with his conscience and his emotion - even more so when he learns that the young doomed man committed desertion out of love. But the execution is carried out, and a member of the firing squad finds only cynical words for the soldier's fate.

But the fraud is discovered and Mrs. Lührs has to appear before the public prosecutor. But even in court, the ludicrous Wilhelmine manages to use her wisdom to cleverly get out of the affair.

This farmer comedy is about a completely normal and very average cat who the nasty neighbor claims has chosen his purebred chicken chicks as his favorite food. The film depicts the first month of 1945 when the Russian Red Army broke into the eastern part of Germany and forced millions of civilians to flee in the coldest of winter. While the Russians invaded Ostpreussen hundred of thousands of civilians were evacuated by ships. Gotenhafen was the last open port and ships left the town almost by the minute, overloaded by refugees. One of the last ships to leave Gotenhafen was the 'Wilhelm Gustloff', a former 'Kraft durch Freude' pleasure cruiser designed for 1000 passengers. Until today it is unknown how many people were on board but it is said to be around 10.000. The ship sunk without a trace and only a handful of people survived this hellish nightmare.

However, the grandfather is even more cunning than the inheritance hunter, and so everything ends well for the poor farmer, whose son then gets the rich farmer's daughter.

Fisherman Hannes Högermann and his nephew Klaus have "salvaged" seventeen sacks of coffee from a stranded ship at night and stowed them in his cellar. Hermann Achner, who works for a coffee broker, is called in to get rid of the loot at a reasonable price. Instead of Hermann Achner, however, the owner of the ship appears first, who is mistaken by Hannes Högermann for the accomplice and learns to his astonishment about the hidden loot. But because the owner of the "Söbenteihn Sack Kaffee" has his eye on the fisherman's daughter, he puts on a good face and lets the beach bailiff believe that the coffee has been properly recovered, so that Hannes Högermann is at least left with the salvage wages. But he has to pay a penalty...

A big change is on the horizon in a small northern German community. The local council agrees that the village needs a doctor, a properly qualified doctor of medicine. But where to put the doctor and practice? There is only one option: The house of midwife Mathilde Jansen, which belongs to the municipality. Midwives are becoming unfashionable anyway. Although she is forced to vacate her home as a result of the change that has been decided, the midwife goes along with it. Mathilde herself gets involved in the search for a doctor. The local council is soon in for a rude awakening. Midwife Jansen, known as "Mother Griepsch" in the old North German dialect, has all too wilfully bungled the local politicians.
