In Autumn of 1991, a Croatian soldier looses his wife and home to Serbian forces. Panicked, he grabs his daughter and, with nowhere else left to go, they leave for Zagreb, hoping to find shelter there. Thus begins, a four-day Odyssey: Grandpa and the kids must come to terms with Helen's death; John must travel across a war-torn land as he tries to reach home; and Helen must stand helplessly observing her own existence as it comes back to haunt her - until at last she is reconciled with John, and thus released.

A cruel world of the Yugoslavian prison during 1980s, based on real events about a man who gets life sentence for committed crime.

Zagreb, Yugoslavia in 1890. A group of high-school students run away on an adventure that ends in scandal. The ringleader, Gusta, is expelled from school and sent to stay with his uncle in rural Turopolje. Here, a totally new world opens up to him, where the internal tragedies of the people are played out against the castle of Brezovica and a small town of wooden-framed houses. People end up in this idyllic exile because of some previous "sin" and try then to make the best of their lives there. But memories of the outside world impinge on their happiness.

At the beginning of 1990s, two Croatian emigrants, economically minded Cinco and politically minded Marinko, arrive in Croatia from Germany, homesick for their families and hometowns. In order to get a German pension, Cinco pretends to be dead and travels in a coffin. Soon, Marinko joins him because he is running away from an old agent of the Yugoslav State Security Service. On their trip in a motor hearse, Cinco and Marinko face many adventures, which culminate when they are stopped at Serbian barricades close to their destination.

Twenty years after the Croatian Spring autonomist movement had been crushed by Yugoslavia's communist goverment, autonomist Jakov Petras returns to Zagreb from a self-imposed exile in Australia, determined to find the truth about the mysterious murder of his ex-girlfriend Sunčana and the disappearence of his younger brother Mislav.
