David Motuzka, demobilized Red Army soldier, returns to his native village, hoping to see the changes caused by the revolutionary events. But he cannot see no improvement. The village is ruled by the kulaks and David's childhood friend Kornii Matiukha helps them.

The film takes place in the post-war years on the territory of Western Ukraine. A gang of Ren settled in one of the Carpathian villages. With her help, the leaders of the Ukrainian nationalists in Munich want to get the lists of Hitler's agents left behind during the retreat of the fascists.

The February Revolution did not bring the desired peace to the trenches. Russian and Ukrainian soldiers, deceived by Kerensky's government, are dying on the slopes of the Carpathians. But the words of Bolshevik truth penetrate the trenches, and the soldiers refuse to go to the slaughter. Among the front-line soldiers returning home is a young Ukrainian named Taras Holota. He dreams of joyful reunions, but instead attends the funeral of his mother, who was killed by the Haidamaks. The landless peasantry is starving, and Golota rallies his fellow villagers to divide up the landowners' fields...

Natka, who dreams of becoming a captain, is sent to pioneer work. She takes her first assignment very seriously - and receives a trip to Crimea. In Artek, Natka is asked to replace a sick pioneer leader. The girl agrees. Soon, during the construction of a water pipeline, a dam breaks and a struggle for water begins. Engineer Ganin, who came on vacation with his little son Alka, also joins this fight. In the ruins of the old fortress, Vladik and Tolik find dynamite. To track down their enemies, the guys hide explosives and swear not to reveal their “military secrets”...

The film depicts the challenging daily life of rural workers.

Many years brings the collective-farm postman Arina post to home folks. This village in one corner is calledl; Chistuy Kolodets; in other ; Chistaya Krinitsa Russians and Ukrainians live there. Arina's stories about village people and the contemporaries create big story which in many recalls their favourite songs.

A simple girl named Lada finds herself in the kingdom of Magnum IV, where a singing competition is being held, the victory in which is already assured for the king's "gifted" daughter, Princess Moggot.
