A gay man's return to his family in East Germany begins a series of tragic events.

After Dr. Patricia Engel experienced a treatment error with a fatal outcome that was also covered up, she gave up her promising career as a doctor and became a lawyer. When she once again comes across a medical error in the clinic of her father, heart specialist Professor Brenner, of all people, she tries everything she can to save the patient. But the surgeon turns against her and sics a lawyer on his daughter.

A young, naive and enthusiastic theater director named Kai comes to a grim provincial town to put on Beckett's Waiting for Godot. Although the lethargic theater company shows no interest in the play, his spirit remains undaunted.Meanwhile, it is fall 1989. The world is changing and somewhere, far away in the capital, a revolution is taking place and it seems that wishes might come true. Great hopes emerge in the little town and unexpected events overtake Kai's mutating production.

But he finds it difficult to integrate - his trust in the community has been shaken by his great misfortune. However, he feels attracted to Wiebke, even though she keeps distancing herself from him. After Arne's clumsiness causes the sailing boat that the young people had restored together to be wrecked during the launch and he is supposedly a traitor after a joint theft, a rift occurs with Wiebke and her brothers. Harald is also deeply disappointed in his foster son.

A life of little Maria who lives in a foster family breaks after a sudden appearance of her mother Melanie who was absent for five years...

Amelia cannot bear to see her beloved grandmother suffering in a care home. She wants to give her one last Christmas in her old surroundings, but the old lady’s house has long since been let to someone else. She takes advantage of the residents’ absence to organise the Christmas celebrations, but is caught off guard by their return.
