This film was Sokurov's first feature at Lenfilm, roughly based on a short story by the contemporary Soviet writer Grigory Baklanov about the transitional period from power to subordinance.

The film consists of three short stories: "The Runaway Car," "Apollo's Skeleton," and "Night Show."

Set in the 16th century, this is a story about Ukraine's Cossack warriors and their campaign to defend their lands from the advancing Polish armies.

Robots hide on an uninhabited island and later kidnap Alisa Seleznyova, a teenage actress playing Little Red Riding Hood, and Baba-Yaga, a mischievous robot actress playing a witch. Now those two have to stop the robots before much damage has been done.

Fitil is a popular Soviet/Russian television satirical/comedy short film series which ran for about 500 episodes. Some of the episodes were aimed at children, and were called Фитилёк, Fitilyok, Little Fuse. Each issue contained from the few short segments: documentary, fictional and animated ones. Directed by various artists, including Leonid Gaidai who presented his famous trio of Nikulin, Vitsin and Morgunov into the cast. It was called in USSR as "the anecdotes from the Soviet government".
