Palermo, Sicily, 1984. A young girl swimmer, involved in an organisation with the aim of protecting dolphins, is engaged in an action against the local fishermen whose nets are endangering the creatures. She develops a rapport with some rescued dolphins, joining them in the society's tank, surprising other members with her ability to hold her breath for long periods. Following the death of a colleague, with whom she was in love, She decides to publicise the situation by breaking a world free-diving record.

Francesca, Paola, Laura, and Alicia are four friends who all fall in love with the same man, a musician named Gigi. Alicia is a woman who fears compromising in her relationships, Laura is an overprotected dreamer, Paola is a lawyer who seeks true love, and Francesca is a dancer on a TV show

Andrea, Maurizio and Sergio are professional idlers, lazy, indolent and full of inventiveness. Maurizio is engaged to the policewoman Anna, of whom he is extremely jealous, Sergio still lives with his mother and Andrea is tyrannized by his wife and his brother-in-law, a former boxer. When a crew arrives in town to shoot a commercial, Andrea and Sergio meet two actresses; in the meantime, Maurizio is dumped by Anna. The three spend a large sum of money on a scratch card to travel to Sardinia in search of the actresses in the commercial.
