The movie adaptation based on the legend of Raden May Ayu. It follows the original tale rather closely, though a few variations of the legend do exist. The essence of each of the variations is more or less the same: Radin Mas Ayu is the baby daughter of Pangeran (brother of the Sultan of Java) and a court dancer; she is forced to go on exile to Temasek with his father after the Sultan disagrees with her parents' marriage and burns their house down, killing her mother. Radin Mas Ayu grows up to be a pious and filial daughter, but is despised out of jealousy by her stepmother. She eventually sacrifices herself as she shields her father from a murderous attack.

It tells the story of Latifah, or her original name Noraini who is taken care of by her adoptive family. After the deaths of her two adoptive parents, she was cared for by her adoptive sister and her husband. Latifah’s life was often disrupted by her adopted brother -in -law, causing her to be evicted.

This film is a heavy drama about the downfall of moral values of a family when proper religion teaching is not being instilled in them since they were small. Having a very good career and being respected by others around you wont determine that you will get the same kind of treatment with your own flesh and blood. As a teacher Mr. Talib is the best there could ever be but as to bringing up his own kids he is clearly a failure. Apart from the troubles he has faced at home with his family he is also waiting for death.

This film exposes the weaknesses found in the high-society consisting of the minister, architects and lawyers. Each has different tastes and desires. As an influential person, the minister used his position to compromise the weak girl. The young lawyer was questioning the good name and status after the girl was betrothed with a tarnished. The young architect ignore Malay art elements. The film also presents a question of love in a family.

The story evolves around Amran and Rohani who are a couple who have slept together one night in front of Gua Musang. Amran then went off to sail but to cover up the shame he brought Rohani on the outskirt are of the village. On his return he was surprised not to have found Rohani there. He found out soon enough that Halimah killed Rohani because she wanted Amran. As of that Rohani’s spirit haunts Halimah in her dream in a form of a tiger.
