The Gardarme

A strangely surreal short animated film by the beloved multi-talented artist Storm P. The film begins with live-action footage of Storm P. standing in front of a canvas where his familiar characters, the Three Little Men, come to life and walk out of a door in the picture. What follows is an animated sequence with a somewhat fragmented narrative. In the first part, a very corpulent gentleman peers hungrily through a keyhole and sees a woman feasting at a well-laid table. The middle section tells the story of a man clashing with a gendarme. In the final scene, we are in the living room of an angry woman waiting for her husband to come home. In true Storm P. style, the laws of physics are broken freely: characters can dematerialise and crawl through keyholes, be kicked all the way across town and tie their limbs up in knots. The Rejuvenation Treatment

A scientist has invented a serum that transforms the old into young and the old into new. His first subject – a very old man – gets a single injection and gradually turns into a baby. Commercial for 'Hjemmet' Magazine

This animated film is an advertisement for the Danish weekly magazine ‘Hjemmet’, which is still published today. ‘Hjemmet’, meaning ‘Home’, was originally called ‘Damernes Blad’ (‘The Ladies’ Magazine’) but changed its name in 1904, a few years after it was acquired by the publishing company Egmont. The advertisement was drawn by the much beloved Danish multi-talent Robert Storm Petersen, popularly known as Storm P., whose many accomplishments included being behind some of Denmark’s earliest animated films. This ad also includes a few seconds of live-action footage showing Storm P. himself smoking a pipe and reading an issue of ‘Hjemmet’. (Stumfilm. dk)

Peter and Ping go Fishing

In this short film, Storm P.’s popular comic strip characters Peter and Ping advertise CLOC Liqueur. The friends are out fishing when Peter reels in a large bottle of CLOC from the sea. Peter and Ping originally appeared as a comic strip in the daily newspaper ‘B.T.’ for 27 years. The first strip was published on 8 August 1922 under the title ‘The Adventures of Peter Vimmelskaft’. Later that year, the series introduced the penguin Ping and was renamed Peter and Ping. (Stumfilm. DK)

A man is seen by a hen, which is sitting on a nest. The three little men enter, the hen eats one of the men's hats and drinks iron potion. The man takes the egg with him, tries to warm it up, a blacksmith hits it with a hammer and a scientist examines the egg, but none of them succeed in breaking the egg. The egg is thrown out of the window and a road worker tries to hammer the egg - without success. The man sees a cannon, the egg is shot out of the cannon and lands by the three little men.
