Dan Bowers, embittered and disillusioned by an unhappy marriage, seeks solitude in the Maine woods, with a lame dog as his only companion. One day he meets Violet Manners who, with her invalid mother Marion, is visiting in a nearby village. Marion is haunted by memories of the past, and one day when Violet takes Dan to meet her mother, she discovers that he is the husband who deserted her years ago. Marta Estevan is ready to leave the convent where she has been reared. Dona Luisa Artega, mother of Rafael and the young girl's guardian, arranges a marriage between the two, because she thinks that Marta's influence will rescue her son from the wild life he is leading and make a man of him. Marta rescues the American Bryton, when he is attacked by Indians, and falls in love with him.

Judy Nichols (Leatrice Joy), a poor girl from Chicago, has decided she cannot marry without money. Her sweetheart, Ronald McKane, a struggling civil engineer (Edmund Burns), is encouraging her to join him in New York, but she only goes when she is bequeathed an inheritance. Unfortunately, the amount adds up to less than ten dollars a week. When she meets banker Sanford Gillespie (Robert Edeson), she convinces him to help McKane out financially. Once McKane has become a success, Judy marries him, but then he becomes interested in another woman. Judy seeks revenge and asks Gillespie to ruin her estranged husband, offering him anything he wants in return.

The story has been adapted from the Sir Arthur Wing Pinero play. The title means nothing more than the mid-channel of married life, through a character in the feature likening the roughness of the English channel in the center of the trip across from London to Paris to the woes married folks meet in their wedded life.

Ruth Rogens (Sylvia Breamer) is married to policeman John Rogens (Jack Mower), whose work causes him to neglect her. Her neighbor Adelaide Thomas (Gertrude Astor), the mistress of bootlegger Cyler Bryson (Bruce Gordon),invites her out on a party and loans her a gown. Before long, Cyler, the cad, is buying Ruth fancy clothes and forgets about Adelaide. The latter, in revenge, leads Cyler's wife Grace (Helene Sullivan), to believe that Ruth is her husband's mistress. John makes a raid on the bootlegger's warehouse and finds his wife in Cycler's company at a roadhouse.

Based on the 1911 novel by Cynthia Stockley, this is the story of Dierdre Saurin, whose infatuation with Major Kinsella takes her to Africa where native uprisings and the jealous connivings of Maurice Stair await her.

For 15 years, wealthy widow Marise Jaffrey has searched for her daughter Mary, who was taken away as an infant by her father and subsequently disappeared after he was killed in a train accident. Mary Healy, a stenographer who has helped in the search, learns that Mrs. Healy is not her real mother. At the same time, Mary's resemblance to the missing girl leads Mrs. Jaffrey to investigate further and discover that Mary is her daughter. Mary then goes to live in the Jaffrey home, but runs away because of the snobbish attitudes of Mrs. Jaffrey's friends. Henry Martin, a printer's foreman, tells Mrs. Jaffrey of his love for Mary. Mary's mother and foster mother reconcile themselves when they see Mary's happiness over her forthcoming marriage.
