Melissa is a 15-year-old girl who loves to dance. Her parents think she is taking classes in classical ballet, but once at the dance school she devotes herself to the hip-hop dance classes. Melissa is good friends with Jordi and he is very happy for Melissa when she is asked to dance in the music video of the famous rapper Brainpower. But because of bad influences, her life becomes a nightmare. Until her real friends decide to get her out of there.

News that the school is supposed to suddenly close causes great agitation among the students. They decide to take direct action by occupying their school... The siege commands hard-action from the friends to protect their school and identities. Will they convince the board to keep the school open?

For his short graduation film Isabelle, Tim Oliehoek filmed Tessa de Loo’s novel of the same title (ten years before Ben Somboogaart made it into a feature film). Oliehoek’s film captures the novel’s fairytale nature in dark, atmospheric photography and displays his preference for the use of archetypes and genre clichés in an economical, attractive narrative.

Best Friends follows the life of a group of friends at their high school ‘Spangalis College’. Inside and outside of school exciting and challenging experiences take place. Growing up is never easy; every character has its own, unique story of love, friendship, loneliness, sorrow, discovery. There is drama and joy in school, family, teachers, parents, divorce, bullying, and always dreams for the future.
