When the hot-dog vendor Kaj from the small town of Skælskør in Denmark turns 40, his friends take him on a trip to Poland, to a long party with cheap liquor and emigration eager polish ladies. It will go merrily, but it gets serious for Kaj as he meets a girl who mistakes him for a wealthy Toyota dealer she has exchanged letters with.

The film "Den, der lever stille" is an adaptation of the bestselling book by Leonora Christina Skov. The story is based on the author's own life and touches on a number of taboos and highly topical themes such as sexuality, guilt and loneliness. The novel has been at the top of the Danish bestseller lists for a full 62 weeks, has sold 120,000 copies and, not least, secured the author the book prize De Gyldne Laurbær. The film adaptation is directed by Puk Grasten, who has previously been behind the drama 37.

Trouble child, Malou is sent to live with new foster parents BIBI and LEIF on a small island. Malou resents everything and everyone, and just wants to escape. Local gnome, Nils hates change, and he hates Malou. The two form a pact to get her thrown off the island. But Malou finds personal success in helping Leif chop down Christmas trees, and before long she realizes that she's made a terrible mistake. But the gnome pact cannot be voided. Nils destroys the farm's traditional Christmas market and throws the blame on Malou. The trouble child has to step up and prove herself. After a fierce battle with Nils, Malou manages to restore her relationship with her new parents and save Christmas.

A poignant drama about a Danish family's unbearable loss and total disintegration, but above all about the faith and hope that miraculously gives them the superhuman strength not to give up.
