A baron who owns a night club is in need of money. He does business with gangsters. The baron involves Smith in the kidnapping of Susanna Braun.

Greger Anner, a student from Uppsala, comes to Ådalen to pursue geological studies. He meets the beautiful and imaginative chalet-girl Sago-Gunnel from Ortorpsgården and they share a blissful summer of love.

Mr. and Mrs. Gyurkovics have a dozen children the oldest of which, the twins Géza and Bandi, just preparing for their matriculation examination. When graduation day has come Géza refuses to set up but taken by force by the principal's henchmen. When dad Gyurkovics later dies, takes over Bandi goods while Géza becoming an officer cadet in the nearby garrison city.

The farmer Per Jonsson doesn't think too well about the factory in the neighborhood, since he thinks that it destroys the fishing and makes the young people leave the countryside. When the workers at the factory go on strike, they ask him to sell milk to them and let them work in his forest. But Jonsson is stubborn and refuses to give them any help at all. At least until he is in an accident and also need help.

A story about is stock deals and land speculations in Stockholm. The happiness depends on a horseshoe a couple of gentlemen find in the street.

The film centers on Algot Söderholm's two daughters, beautiful Magda and plain, less desirable Lena. Adapted from the 1910 play by Ernst Fastbom.
