The Toilers is a 1916 American film drama directed by Edgar Lewis.

Upon his father’s death Jules Beaubien's is left a rich man but also one with a mission. Find his until now unknown half-sister, take her in and educate her. After investigating he discovers she has met a tragic fate after falling for a roue who had abandoned her. Swearing vengeance, he set off in a quest for justice in her name.

A serving girl receives a telegram that she has come into an inheritance. The family she works for suddenly starts to treat her well, and several young men come to court her. Then she receives another telegram telling her the inheritances is only $25. All her new 'friends' desert her, except her poor boyfriend.

Bill is a rich miner but wants a wife. He advertises in an Eastern paper and receives a response from Nellie and Eleanor, but doesn't know it was sent as a joke. When he travels East to meet them, they have the cook pose as the writer of the response.

Inventor Dan Hilyer needs money to go West in order to market his new patent, his wife Madge secretly gets a loan from her former sweetheart, Arthur Crewe. Then, with her husband gone, Madge again receives financial support from Arthur when she is about to have her baby. Shortly after Dan returns, he learns of Arthur's help and suspects his wife of having given far too much in return for the money. Dan is on the verge of demanding a separation when Arthur, having heard that his loan has caused the problem, comes to Dan and vouches for Madge's perfectly upright behavior, which then leads to the couple's reconciliation.

In this rambunctious comedy, desperately job-needy Billie becomes "Bridget" to answer a "female wanted" ad for a housekeeper. Unfortunately, s/he is all thumbs, wreaking household havoc in no time.

At college, Jack is spending his dad's money and not studying. When dad comes for a visit, Jack gets one of his friends to dress as a woman and flirt with his father. Another friend pretends to be the jealous husband, forcing dad to buy his way out of trouble.

Tillie Todd gifts her wealthy Aunt Sally a dime-store tomato pincushion, falsely claiming it’s handmade. Cousin Percy exposes the lie, vying for Sally’s favor. At Sally’s birthday, Tillie’s suitor “The Bat” crash-lands his flying invention, inspiring Sally to take flight herself. Declared dead after vanishing for days, she wills Tillie the pincushion but leaves most of her estate to her pet monkey Jim, with Percy as eventual heir. Percy kidnaps Jim to hasten his fortune, framing Tillie for the crime. Pursued by police, Tillie is saved when Sally returns alive. In frustration, Tillie tears apart the despised pincushion—only to discover it stuffed with $10,000.

Tom Milford, foreman of the Hayden ranch, and Sylvia Hayden, daughter of the ranch owner, are in love. Hayden has been notified that Archie Hollister, son of an old friend in the east, is coming to visit the ranch. Just before Hollister arrives, a cowboy brings word to the ranch that Simms, a troublesome neighbor, has been illegally interfering with the ranch supply of water.

A minister and a circus clown move mountains to save the life of a sick little girl.

Christabel Nuneham (Gladys Hanson) feels neglected by her husband, Phil (Ferdinand Tidmarsh), so she has an affair with Rex Allen (Jack Standing). When Allen has to go to India, Christabel follows him to Southampton to see him off. She is injured in a car accident and is rescued by an evangelist (George Soule Spencer) whose specialty is saving sinners.

A falling-out between a man and his ambitious wife results in their splitting up and moving far apart. She pursues a career as an actress, taking their son with her to Europe. Alone, they are miserable and they reminisce nostalgically for when they were together.
