Rashid, a doctor from Syria, struggles to adjust to his life in Canada after five years in Toronto’s Thorncliffe Park with his wife Farah and son Ammar. He tries to hold on to his old identity by working as an unlicensed doctor for his neighbours. While Farah becomes more involved in their local community, tensions between her and Rashid begin to take their toll on their fragile marriage.

William in White Shirt portrays a young man contending with life in a difficult neighborhood of Vancouver. In observing his various daily encounters, the film explores his lighthearted approach towards the transitions he is living through.

East Hastings Pharmacy

Bourges documents the daily routine of a typical pharmacy in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside, where most clients are on a treatment that requires taking daily doses of methadone witnessed by the pharmacist. The architecture of the space is as much a character as the population which passes through it, with borders of glass between the street and the pharmacy and then between the pharmacist and her clients. The tension of the situation and the struggles on both sides of the glass are punctuated with moments of good humour and camaraderie.
