Nora is fourteen and lives with her parents in a quiet Berlin suburb. She is a romantic introvert who spends her day retreated into her own enchanted dreamworld. Her parents, Anette and Uwe, are busy trying to handle reality; both are wrestling with unrealized hopes and dreams along with the added troubles caused by Anette's return to her studies and Uwe's struggling business. When Thomas, a former lover of Anette's and his family move in next door, the already fragile foundations of Nora's family are rocked.

A Black Forest village in the 1950s. Liesbeth Steiner refuses to give up hope that her husband Max has survived the war and Russian captivity. She waits for every homecoming train, but to no avail. Liesbeth and her young son Josef found refuge on her parents-in-law's farm. It never became a home, as Max never told his family about his war marriage. His sister Margarete, who keeps the farm running, suspects that Liesbeth is an heiress. When Max is finally included in a late repatriation transport in 1955, Liesbeth hopes that different times are dawning. But Max has changed a lot over the years.

The criminal psychologist Annett Schuster and the case analyst Jan Kawig have to solve their first case together when a male body is found near the Wartburg. Huddled in a fridge like the victim is praying. The man was known as the "Judge Merciless" at the Higher Regional Court of Erfurt - revenge as a motive is therefore obvious. Annett Schuster finds religious symbols that refer to the Bible quote "An eye for an eye".

Two married couples are murdered by an unknown person, including the restaurant owners Sardini, whose daughter is the only survivor. She can't remember anything, but criminal psychologist Annett Schuster and profiler Jan Kawig think she is the key to solving the case.

The series is about a cruise ship that travels to places around the world.
