In 2040, a devastating lung disease has left the world fractured while governments enforce surveillance and control. David, an aspiring meteorologist, follows his late father's footsteps in the Swedish military. After stumbling upon what's left of his father's work, David sets off to a desert island in the Barents Sea - the one place which may hold the truth about his father's passing. Per is the ambitious outsider at school, who discovers friends for life through the power of music as he finds MP, Micke, Anders and Göran. Despite hardships, the band goes on to break through in the early 80s, where their hit songs about life in a small town made them a nationwide sensation.

The series is named after a small part of Saltsjöbaden called Solsidan. It revolves around Alex and Anna who are expecting their first child and have just moved to Alex's childhood home in Saltsjöbaden, Stockholm County. Alex tries to get Anna to enjoy herself, and at the same time spend time with his childhood friend Fredde.
