On Christmas Eve, Manuela Paris returns home to a seaside town near Rome. She has been absent for some time, ever since she left - still a girl - to be a soldier. With determination and sacrifice, Manuela laboriously built the life she dreamed of, until she became an army non-commissioned officer and platoon commander in an advanced base in the Afghan desert, responsible for the life and death of thirty men. But the bloody attack in which she was seriously wounded forces her into a very different and no less insidious war: against memories, disillusionment and pain, but also against the stereotypical role of woman and victim that society tries to impose on her. The meeting with the mysterious guest of the Hotel Bellavista, Mattia, a man apparently without a past and, like her, suspended in his own personal limbo of expectation and hope, is an opportunity to come to terms with his story. And to find that life is always worth living - because nobody, not even her, is what they seem.

Vittorio, a man of about forty-five, a villager, sets out one morning from Via del Mandrione, on foot, to reach the Rio della Grana, the location of which he generally knows. He only knows that it is "over there", near the village of Gelsomino, "a thousand meters from the Pope's bedroom". He must meet an old friend of his, Aurelio, the son of Beddamadre, an old criminal who has been dead for years. Maybe Aurelio will give him a little job, maybe he will give him some money, maybe nothing. But, above all, Vittorio wants to see the Rio della Grana, he has heard about it from the old people of the village, it must be beautiful.

Following the death of her husband in a car accident, Antonia discovers that he was having a homosexual affair with a man named Michele. At first devastated by the news, she finds herself building an unexpected friendship with this man she had never heard of. They both learn to know each other, to accept each other, to understand each other. Antonia thus discovers her husband's other family made up of friends with unusual lifestyles and different sexual identities.

Leo is a brilliant but shy boy who has just moved into his new school. Here, together with friends Nick, J, Spoiler, Mimy, Emily and Siry, the girl he's secretly in love with, he will live new and fun adventures every day. The school of School Hacks is not a school like any other: the Histrionic Headmaster and the strict Miss Elia contribute to making it a decidedly out-of-the-ordinary institution.
