Latvia, 1980s. While striving for achievements in the Soviet kolhoz competition, people have forgotten to take care of their surroundings and their loved ones. The Latvian countryside is overwhelmed by alcoholism, and the chairman of the kolhoz is keeping the newly built culture hub locked up so that public would not "spoil it". Vitolds, the new secretary of the Young Communist League is ready to combat all the negative issues. However, it's important to do everything with moderation, as otherwise one may fall from one side of a ditch to another.

The 30-year war still goes on. Riga headmasters have decided to submit themselves to mercy of Polish-Lithuanian Duke. Rigas' defenders disagree strongly and steal the ceremonial Key of Riga. Will they succeed in their fight against all odds? Will three Latvian musketeers have their happily ever after?

The 1930s. Young fisherman Oskars Klava dreams of new nets to help him gain independence from the collector Garoza but he lacks the trust of old fishermen.

When old auntie Mirta succeeds in a lottery and wins a car which she cannot use herself, all sorts of family members suddenly appear by her side, hoping to get the car after their auntie's death. Until then, they had never helped Mirta, it was only her neighbours who supported her in her old age. Now, her nephew Ēriks with his wife and son, and her ex-daughter-in-law Olita with her second husband and daughter, would all love to get their hands on the car that's in the colour of Midsummer's Eve.

In 1905 Germany, Evgeny Narezhny, a talented bridge engineer and son of a Russian émigré, rejects lucrative offers to serve Russia. Arriving in St. Petersburg during the 1905 revolution, he focuses on science, believing it can solve global issues, unlike his Bolshevik wife, Elena Chernova. As a renowned scientist, Narezhny is repulsed by capitalism and is forced to reconsider his views on the revolutionaries’ struggle.

In one of the small towns of West Germany there is a camp for displaced persons, where hundreds of Soviet people languish. An underground group, led by Sevastopol sailor Andrei Makarov, operates in the camp. The Americans manage to intercept the first list of people who want to return to the Soviet Union. Major Peterson, with the help of Belin and Tsupovych, tries to recruit Soviet people to work in Brazil. But a second list for repatriation has already been drawn up. Peterson arrests Andrei Makarov. The Americans accuse him of the murder of Anna Robchuk, who actually died at the hands of Belin. The underground, with the help of German anti-fascists, manages to get the list to the Soviet mission. Soon a ship with Soviet people who have returned to their native land approaches the pier of the Odesa port.

The action takes place in Kurzeme in the 17th century. The Duke of Courland, the King of Poland and the German barons want power over the Latvian people. Farmers are the biggest victims of this power struggle.
