Strongheart

This special two-disc collection, presented in cooperation with the Library of Congress, celebrates cinema’s lesser-known dog stars with their most memorable features, shorts, and newsreel appearances (1898-1928). Films dated as early as 1898 offer satisfying simple glimpses of dogs at play, anticipating the adorable animal videos that would become social media phenomena more than a century later.

David thinks he has killed a man during a fight over his dog, Strongheart, so he escapes to a small town far up north. The only girl living up there is an orphan, Sally, and David falls in love with her. Strongheart decides to search for love himself and lures Lady Jule, a female shepherd, away from a pack of timber wolves.

Just out of jail and vowing to go straight, former jewel thief Boston Blackie, undertakes the reformation of a pretty blonde who has stolen a necklace from a cabaret dancer. He learns that the jewel belongs to the mother of the blonde girl, and the blonde's philandering father gave it as a gift to the cabaret girl. Now, Blackie must find a way to return the necklace to the owner's safe without arousing the suspicions of the girl's family.
