After his college entrance examination, an 18-year-old young man decides to follow his 40-year-old uncle to the west to earn some money for his college life. They drive a Jeep across three provinces. Only when they arrive at their destination does he find out that he is taking part in an illegal deal. Over the course of three days, he experiences the cruellest coming of age.

An interweaving tale of 3 characters as they navigate various struggles dealing with health, loss, dreams, and unfulfillment. Lu Bai Cheng is a bartender who comes home nightly to his mentally ailing wife and two children. Across town, Bai Rong, a music teacher and wife to a wealthy businessman, is searching for answers to her amenorrhoea. Bai Rong's father-in-law, a retired soldier, is facing his own difficulties as well - needing a full-time caregiver after the death of his wife.

Endless dog days of summer weigh heavily on the impoverished suburb of Changsha where a young mother, Lulu, works as a dancer in a cheap nightclub. Coming home late one night, she discovers that her boyfriend Bai Long has disappeared with their baby. Her desperate search takes her to a transvestite bar where gay man Sunny is performing; he knows the whereabouts of the child’s father. A deal is struck between the odd couple whose lives are now fatefully intertwined.
